We finished Book 6 of the Wheel of Time – woohoo! That only leaves, how many more to go?

Something Borrowed is a book about a 30-year-old women who steals her best friend’s fiance – which is as bad as it sounds. The “author” (if she deserves that title) tries to justify the cheating and lying with convenient situations to make it seem that their behaviour is anything other than reprehensible. You couldn’t like or sympathize with any of the characters. The “hero”  was a cheating hollow jerk, the “heroine” was a bad friend, shallow, and self-absorbed, but maybe that’s why it has so many positive reviews, because so many woman of today can relate? Well, if you related to any character in this book, I feel sorry for you.

It’s good to get the blood pumping with rage over idiot “romance” books.

Can You Keep a Secret?

Is a “Bridget Jones-like” character identifiable and entertaining?  Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella is so very unrealistic. The “romance” is gag-inducing, the only thing worse then the lead, is the man she falls in love with.

Where to get books

Books, books and more books.

When you are an avid reader, you have to have a source for your books. I’ve had a great experience using www.paperbackswap.com. It’s free and easy to use and I find I get the traded books in a about a week. The selection is pretty good, but sometimes they lack some obscure titles. The library is another awesome resource that I think is sometimes forgotten if you don’t use it very often. Where else can you get stuff for FREE!

I’ve seen a restaurant in my area have a free book corner where you can bring in and leave  your old books and you are free to take any that are there. I thought this would be a great thing to set up at work, if you have a large number of book lovers at the office think about starting a book trading station or even a book club.  Also remember you can do this with monthly magazines too.  Instead of just one person getting use out of something, you can pass things around once you are done with them. It’s not only a great way to save money on books and subscriptions, but it’s a form of recycling too!

The Gathering Storm

We are currently  re-reading the Wheel of Time series before the final 3 books are all released. We are only up to book 4, but with dedication we’ll get there.

First Sale!

We had our first sale today at our Etsy Store! We use recycled paper from vintage books, magazines, newspaper and the like to create handmade decoupage greeting cards, tags, and other paper goods. We sold this Happy Birthday Greeting Card made using pages from an old edition of  The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
